Welcome!

Through our study and performance of classical and multi-cultural musical repertoire and our focus on musical excellence and intellectual enjoyment, Viva la Musica’s goal is to promote education and to foster a global network of culture, peace and mutual respect among all the world’s peoples.

Since its inception in 2001 Viva la Musica has performed two seasons annually of choral-orchestral works as well as choral art repertoire. Each season Viva sings a set of sold-out concerts in which Viva’s hallmark is its highly palatable programs that combine a major work from the choral-orchestral genre with a smorgasbord of folk songs, gospel, spirituals, and multi-cultural music.

Viva la Musica has sung the following choral-orchestral works: Vivaldi Magnificat; Vivaldi Gloria; Pachelbel Magnificat; Buxtehude Magnificat; Charpentier Te Deum; Bach Magnificat, Handel Messiah; Pergolesi Stabat Mater; Mozart Magnificat; Mozart Coronation Mass; Mozart Requiem; Haydn Mass in Time of War; Ariel Ramirez Misa Criolla; Ariel Ramirez Navidad Nuestra; Robert Ray Gospel Magnificat, René Ochoa Misa del Pueblo.

The choir participated in the 2005 Vermont International Summer Choral Festival and in 2006 traveled to Austria to sing in prestigious venues in Vienna and Salzburg as part of Mozart’s 250th anniversary celebrations. In June 2008 Viva sang two performances of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with Symphony Parnassus at the San Francisco Conservatory. The choir has performed twice at Carnegie Hal, in 2008 singing John Rutter’s Mass of the Children under Mr. Rutter's direction, and again in 2009, singing the Vivaldi Gloria in a massed choir, under their own director, Shulamit Hoffmann. Plans are underway for a trip to Prague in 2011, to sing the Mozart Requiem. Singers and groupies are invited to join. See Travel Plans.
Thank you for giving us something to sing about
